Codicological analysis shows that the seven gatherings are in the sequence Villard himself left them, and that within these gatherings the individual folios and bifolios are essentially as he arranged them. The volumes were priced at five dollars each, a high price reflecting the work involved in assembling them. It was, perhaps, from these groups that Jefferson derived his scheme for the University of Virginia. Of these, the contents of at least two can be identified from inscriptions on surviving leaves: drawings of Cambrai Cathedral; and a drawing elevation? Whitehead was hired to supervise the series with Julian Buckly as photographer.

The single servant's room without a bath room is manifestly inadequate for a house of this type, nor is it possible to reach the attic in the manner indicated. Somewhat later in the 13th century a different hand did the same. The details of the building as well as its elevations were admired, with the exception of the treatment of the sleeping porch and the open porch below, which are, in the opinion of the Committee, quite too light and frail to be properly coordinated with the archi- tecture of the balance of the building. It was, perhaps, from these groups that Jefferson derived his scheme for the University of Virginia.

Complete sets of this work are very rare. The sleeping porch, always a difficult problem, is well managed. Eagerly collected by architects and historians, the monographs have been re-issued in bound editions several times. While Villard owned the portfolio, and even when it left his hands, the leaves were not stitched together or to the portfolio itself. Often the notable structures of a single village would be documented together in one issue. The Monograph series was ended abruptly in June

The detail of the dining room is not considered to be in harmony with the character of the building and is exceedingly disappointing to the Committee. The trees available to Hough at the time make such an endeavor impossible to contemplate today. The house is extremely well placed on the property; the garden scheme is imaginative and interesting and the grouping of the garage with the house is a pleasant feature.
